Coming Up: The Ohio Business of Games Summit

Move over, “Rust Belt.” Hello, “Dev Belt!” Thanks to the tireless work of the Midwest’s gaming communities (academic, commercial, hobbyist and otherwise) the region is well on its way to becoming a thriving hub for all things game-related. Furthermore, Ohio is emerging as a hotspot for this growing industry.

Major League Gaming’s presence in Ohio brought the 2016 MLG Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship to Columbus’ Nationwide Arena, making history as the first Major Championship in North America and the first CS:GO tournament to have a prize pool of $1,000,000.

Universities throughout the state (Ohio University and The Ohio State University, among others) have produced groundbreaking research on the applicability of cutting-edge game technologies to medical encounters, the classroom environment, and more.

From September 29th to October 1st the fifth annual GDEX makes the jump from COSI to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, solidifying its role as a major Midwestern gaming event with every passing year. (For more GDEX news, check out our GDEX 2017 tag!)

The first Ohio Business of Games Summit is both a celebration of this explosive potential and a crucial opportunity to develop strategies for future growth. The Ohio University Center for Entrepreneurship and the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab have curated a varied lineup of industry leaders, game developers, professional e-sports players, and more.

The event will be held on Ohio University’s main campus in the Baker University Center Ballroom from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm. Admission is free, although attendees are encouraged to RSVP via the summit’s official website.
